Kapuskasing began in the early 1900s, like many northern communities, with the development of the railway. The settlement, then known as McPherson, changed names in 1917 to Kapuskasing. The word Kapuskasing is Cree for “Bend in the River”. St. Mark’s church has greatly expanded lay ministry and has raised up a deacon and priest from within the congregation. St. Mark’s is very supportive and appreciative of the leadership being given by members of the congregation. Eucharist is celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays of the month and morning prayer on the first and third.
